Default The Language Of Guild Wars

Don't ask how I came up with this thought, but I'm just looking for opinions and thoughts from anyone who reads this thread.

This thread will mostly reflect something I don't think many people have thought about for GW2: The language and wording.

What do I mean by this? "Curse" words such as damn and bastard.

You don't see them in Guild Wars (unless I'm blind...), but is it possible to think GW2 will push a little into that area of words? I was just wondering if you'd want to see this kind of language in GW2, or just keep it "friendly" with the wording.

EDIT: I must be blind for overlooking Damned Clerics and Kessex Peak.

Also, I'm prepared for the random GO RED ENGINE stuff. If it occurs, I can't help it, so blah blah blah.

Thank you for reading this thread.

I don't care either way. Anet should keep it smart though.

Rurik says "Balthazar be damned" in the Ruins of Surmia cutscene...

If you have the chat filter on, this enemy is censored if you call the target.
GW has a few "bastard swords," but none of them are labeled as such.
http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Lesser_Highlander_Blade is one example of a bastard sword, off the top of my head.

I don't think it makes sense to include more curse words, since doing so will increase the ESRB rating. ANet wants return customers, and I don't see why they would go above a "Teen" rating like they have now.

there's no reason why they'd want to use bad language in their game... unless they want to keep people from buying the game.
cursing in general just proves a persons inability to use the language... =/

If it's not necessary I wouldn't want them to add it.

That being said however, if it is a descriptive, such as Damned Cleric, or to convey emotion, such as Balthazar be damned, I think that's okay. I wouldn't want some character running around using f*** every other word though. Overall, I think they strike a good balance in the game as it is now.

The language they use now is fine. I wouldn't want them to amp it up.

Well if they introduced more crude language then it would push up the rating, this would maybe mean that there would be a new audience, a one which is more mature in age.
It's fine as it is i think, though. Language like that i think is better in single player games or at least not MMOs.

Don't be ridiculous. People frequently curse in moments of stress or duress, and any writer looking to make a reasonable facsimile of these emotions would do well to take advantage of this. I have a hard time taking character anger seriously if they say stuff like "Well gosh that sure makes me darn mad."

Eh, I don't mind the language used, but I find it hilarious that Anet censors their own stuff (such as Damned Cleric). Wouldn't mind a higher rating, I stumbled upon one of these genitalia-drawing 12-year-old earlier...

While I would certainly prefer an M-rated game with exploding Charr and a potty-mouthed Rurik, it's not going to happen because it's not as profitable.

That's the only reason to swear in my opinion is to convey strong emotion. Other than that, nah it's fine the way it is.

The second I saw the option, I took it off. Some still play with it though, I mean not everyone's slack about the language issue...

Doesn't Rurik say bastard when your fighting the charr in Rin or something like that. Maybe some other area but he says the charr are bastards I think.
